I'm a Pisces fish and the river runs through my soul

Happy February 25th, everyone! I've been celebrating this day of the year for many years. No, it's not my birthday. Or my husband's birthday. Or the birthday of anyone in my family. Or any of my friends.

No.

Today is George Harrison's birthday. He would've turned 68 today if he hadn't died almost ten years ago.

I'm a Beatles fanatic. It's kind of sick, people. I have only met one other person who knows as much about the Beatles (who wasn't directly involved with them) as I do. We tell Anthology jokes. It's ridiculous. Anyway, George has been my favorite for about 20 years and I blame his memory for my being a Sanskritist today.

Bastard.

(Just kidding, George. I love you. CALL ME! Only don't. Because I'd be freaked out.)

ANYWAY, the way I celebrate Beatles birthdays, particularly George's (am I sounding like a weirdo yet? I'd hate to disappoint.), is to just dress up a little nicer in memory. I've slacked off in the last few years, but I decided to step it up today for the couple of hours that I ventured out of my house. Contacts and mascara were involved. I know, right?

Fate didn't want me to leave the house today. I was feeling a fair amount better and decided to schlep across town in order to leave my Ray-Bans to get their new lenses, but the mere effort of taking a shower and drying my hair exhausted me. When I put in my right contact lens, it shattered in my eye as soon as it got in there. Fortunately, I got all the pieces out and moved on (and I wear disposables). The weather was awful today - pouring and disgusting. The gross. It was tough going, I got goin':

Due to weather, I couldn't wear whatever I wanted, but I thought I'd work with my blue Frye boots; you can't see from the dark photo, but I wore my warm blue footless tights and my comfy black jersey dress. A neutral modesty top and my dark purple cardigan completed the simple outfit. Do you see that forced smirk up there? This shows more of what I felt:

Yay.

It's the sarcastic thumbs-up! Is it weird that I like this photo better? I think it shows more of my natural sunny personality.

So there ya go, people. Now you have a clearer look into the deranged corners of my mind. Lucky you! Happy Friday!

  1. My sweet Lord, I like the jewels and this jersey dress. That shattered contact sounds scary.

  2. OMG - I was TOTALLY talking to someone today about how it was George's birthday! He's my favorite Beatle, too, and I try to acknowledge the day by listening to a mix CD I made back in middle school of Beatles songs he wrote or sang lead on (a tie between "Happy Just to Dance with You" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps").

P.S. Ding Dong, Ding Dong, I love the blue tights and boots! (Or should I call them the "Sue Me, Sue You Blues" boots and tights?

  3. Terri, it was pretty gross. It's the first time it's happened to me while I was alone and I just had to take a lot of deep breaths and poke into my eye. The jewelry here is the first jewelry that my husband ever gave me.

Katie, when I read your comment, I literally blurted "I LOVE HER" out loud at, like, 6:30 in the morning. Fortunately, my husband was too unconscious to hear me.

  4. Well you know I love the Beatles and I love me some George Harrison. While My Guitar Gently Weeps? Love.
Your boots are awesome. Love `em with the blue tights!

  5. Don't beat me up, but I don't even know all the beatles names. (!)

I do however really really like this outfit, the black dress looks like the most comfortable thing in the world, I wonder if Gap still has something like that.....

  6. Yay! Thanks, Allison. At our fancy Athenian wedding, my husband's and my first dance was to "Something." The whole wedding/my baptism/my dress/hair/make-up was very Greek, but I was glad to put some Beatles there.

Oh, Miss B. I won't beat you up. I'll just mourn. :) I haven't seen those comfortable jersey dresses in the Gap in a while, but this dress is the closest thing I have to wearing pajamas and looking super-presentable.

  7. I like this a lot. In a much less classy version of this, I dress up and/or bake for Harry Potter character/actor birthdays (whichever I happen to remember) btw to not seem totally creepy, I'm Cassy. I don't know who's blog I was reading when I found yours, but I was intrigued by your glasses search as I was on my own at the time.
